Studio Soraya develops architectural design based on key sustainable development goals; Reversing land and environmental degradation and generating environmental and economic value in disadvantaged areas. Studio Soraya utilises architecture as a device to reactivate and repair. As pressure on land continues to increase, Studio Soraya explores how our well-being and nature’s ecosystems can exist side by side.
SORAYA SOMARATHNE
Architect RIBA ARB (UK Registered)
Soraya is a UK registered architect with British, Sri Lankan and Malaysian heritage. After graduating from The Bartlett, UCL, Soraya spent six years working for Foster+Partners. Early on, Soraya worked on the refurbishment of the listed Murray Hotel in Hong Kong. Soraya went on to lead the refurbishment of The Fleming Hotel in Hong Kong, which saw the transformation of an industrial building into a travel destination. In 2017, Soraya set up Studio Soraya and now works between London and Hong Kong. With a background in adaptive re-use, Soraya continues to push her practice in regenerative design across Asia and Europe.
